They must have opened a way for them to enter. These things choke The Word. The Word cannot grow in them. Cares - Worry and anxiety. Deceitfulness of riches - Thinking that having money is the most important thing, or being more concerned about earning money than anything. Lusts of other things. Wanting what you haven't got - covetousness - greed.
